Year 4 and 5 teamed up for the day and were transported back nearly 2,000 years as we welcomed Portals to the Past into school for an exciting Roman Day! From the moment the day began, it felt like we had stepped into ancient history.
The children were amazed to see and handle real Roman coins and genuine artifacts from the time of the Roman Empire. It was incredible to hold pieces of history in our hands and imagine who might have used them all those years ago.
One of the highlights of the day was the thrilling interactive battle! Half the class became fierce warriors in Boudicca’s army, while the others stood strong as Roman soldiers. With foam swords and shields in hand, we acted out the tension and tactics of a real Roman battle—it was loud, energetic and full of excitement!
We also got to play a Roman board game called Delta, which was a brilliant way to learn how the Romans had fun during their free time. Everyone quickly got competitive and really enjoyed getting to grips with the rules.
Roman Day was a fantastic, hands-on experience that brought our history learning to life. A huge thank you to Portals to the Past for helping us step into the sandals of Roman Britain for the day!
