St Michael's C of E Primary School

Welcome

J GillespieWelcome to our school - small enough for everyone to count... and big enough to make a difference!

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child to St Michael’s School, a place where every child is unique, yet being different is what we all share in common.

Inspired by one of my favourite poems, I Have Learned by Maya Angelou, I would like to take this opportunity to reflect on what we, at St Michael’s, have learned over the years.

At St Michael’s, we have learned that a child only has one experience of primary school—and we are committed to making that experience the very best it can be.

We have learned to celebrate mistakes as valuable learning opportunities. After all, if you don’t know something, it simply means you don’t know it yet.

We have learned that being a Church of England School gives us a distinctive character —one that enables our core values to shape a caring and inclusive ethos.

We have learned that good personal and moral values are essential in helping children grow into resilient, kind, and well-adjusted citizens in today’s world.

We have learned that effort, hard work, and a positive attitude lead to meaningful progress—and that progress deserves to be celebrated.

We have learned how important it is to nurture a love of learning in a safe and welcoming environment—one where every child feels accepted, included, and confident to take on challenges.

We have learned that while learning new content is important, truly experiencing it brings it to life—so that every child has the chance to live an abundant life.

We have learned that education works best when it is a partnership between home and school. Children thrive when parents are actively involved in our shared journey.

We have learned to encourage every member of our community to strive to be the very best they can be.

And finally, we have learned, just as Maya Angelou reminds us, that we still have so much to learn. Our commitment to reflection, growth, and improvement will never stop, as we seek new ways to ensure that every child lives an abundant and fulfilling life.
