CELEBRATING DIFFERENCES

In Health and Relationship Education (HRE) this week, Y5 have been discussing racism.

Children sometimes use racist language and terms without understanding their meaning. It is important for children to realise that no words should be used to hurt others and that all racist words are unacceptable.

The term racism was explained and clarified. Racism is discrimination or a negative judgement about someone due to the colour of their skin or their race and it might include someone’s beliefs or religion.

After various discussions and scenarios, the children designed ribbons that could be used in campaigns against racism. Here are their brilliant designs!

What would the design of your ribbon look like? Why?
