Let there be light!

In Year 3, our topic in Science is ‘Light and Dark’ and we wanted to find out which surface reflects light the best. We made the classroom as dark as possible to carry out our investigation.

Here are some of the comments from the children, telling us their findings:

“We found out that the CD disc reflects light the most. Before we thought that the yellow fabric would reflect the most light because you can see the yellow colour clearly but our prediction was incorrect”.

“The metal CD disc was the most reflective material.  The bubble wrap was the least reflective surface.”

“The CD reflected the most light, the see-through plastic reflected some light and the yellow fabric didn’t reflect light.

The next step is to design a school bag that is visible to others, especially when it is dark, so we will be using a material that reflects light well.
