Number day 2022

A big thank you to all the children, parents and staff at St Michael’s school for enabling us to have a fun packed and exciting Number Day on Friday 4th February. Your support not only enabled us to dive into mathematics in interesting ways, but it also helped us demonstrate our courageous advocacy as we raised money to champion the work of the NSPCC.

We raised a grand total of £175.26 which is an absolutely amazing figure.

The work of the NSPCC is very important. Any young person who feels worried or sad should feel that they can talk to a parent, teacher or someone they trust, but some children struggle to get that help. Keeping children safe is what drives the work of the NSPCC – as long as children need support – they fight for every childhood.

The money our school has raised will go towards helping the NSPCC continue to provide support to children through Childline and also their Speak out. Stay safe. programme. The speak out NSPCC mascot is called Buddy and children welcomed him enthusiastically to school.

During the day our children enjoyed outdoor number activities involving races, times table sprints, bean bags, balls and parachutes. They also took part in quizzes, games, live Mathletics, puzzles and investigations, which really got their brains whirring.

Here are a few quotes from our children.

  • “I really enjoyed playing ‘Who wants to be a Mathionnaire?’ because we worked as a team.”
  • “Number Day is about maths and I love maths!”
  • “I loved Number Day. The Mathletics challenge was fun and so was dancing with my class to learn the 7x table song!
  • Because maths is one of my favourite subjects, I thought today was great! I loved the times tables challenge to the song ‘Happy’ because I love to dance.
  • “I really enjoyed the parachute games.”
  • “We LOVE Buddy!”
  • I tried Mathletics Live Level 7 to challenge myself; it was a bit difficult but I got there in the end. Some of the calculations were algorithms and algebra with one than one equation!

But as well as reading a few quotes, please have a look at what the children did. They had a fabulous time!

All the fun, all the games and all the laughter, but let us not forget the reason behind it all. We were supporting, through our giving, a charity which believes that every childhood is worth fighting for!

Thank you for every penny of the £175.26
