The sky’s the limit

Year 4 used sketching to explore shapes forms and colours representative of the sea and sky for our focus on God’s creation. We looked at colourful images of seascapes and we looked closely at the work of a Japanese artist: Katsushika Hokusai. ‘The Great Wave’ off Kanagawa was one of his most famous works. We used this as part of our focus on wave shapes and forms.

After this, we used water colours and poster paints to create our own seascapes and recreated wave forms, clouds and shades of colour explored in our sketch work. Children enjoyed colour mixing to achieve bold or subtle colours and to create striking and dramatic effects. Here is a selection of our work.

Look at their concentration and attention to detail. Well done children!
