are you a promise keeper?

COP26, the United Nations Climate Conference took place in Glasgow between 31st October and 13th November. The children have spent time over the last two weeks thinking about how they can make a difference in combating climate issues.

On Friday 5th November 2021 young people and schools across the UK formed a Forest of Promises, displaying leaves made by students on a ‘tree of promises’ and starting a conversation in the wider community about the changes needed to address climate change.

After watching this short clip, the children thought about promises they could make to affect the climate as well as promises they wanted world leaders to make. Some of the promises were echoed by many children.

  • I will recycle more
  • I will walk to school more often
  • I will switch off the lights when not in use
  • I will use solar panels when I am older
  • I will clean up rubbish
  • I will plant a tree
  • I will get an electric car when I am older

The children decorated leaves and wrote their promises and messages for change.
