Hello and welcome to the exciting world of Nursery. The children have settled in really well and we are looking forward to inviting you in to see the nursery very soon. At St Michael’s our aim is to provide a rich curriculum and a wide range of opportunities
During the Autumn term, the children will be learning through the topic of Bears.
Learning in the nursery covers key areas and below is a snap shop of what the children will be doing tin different areas.
PSED (Personal, Social and Emotional Development)
The children will be discussing different feeling and emotions and talking about people who are important to them. They will also be talking about people who are special to them and discussing how they care for themselves and others.
Communication and Language
Through circle time, games and songs the children will learn to listen and respond to instructions. They will sing along to repeating rhymes and play lots of games to develop waiting and turn taking.
Understanding the World
The children will have opportunities to discuss their families and create self portraits and family pictures. They will also be learning about similarities and differences in homes, countries that we live in and are from. They will explore their senses through a variety of activities.
Literacy
In Reading the children will enjoy regular story times and discussions linked to their topic. They will have opportunities to write (mark make) for different purposes.
Mathematics
Through specifically designed activities, children will share counting songs and begin to recognise numbers.
In addition to all the learning already outlined, the children will also be given ample opportunity to do Art and DT linked to their topic.
