Year 4 had a fantastic end-of-year trip to Dacres Wood Nature Reserve, where we were greeted by our lovely group leader, Jess. She led us into the woods, and we stopped at a forest clearing to talk all about habitats and what we already knew from science this year. We explored how animals adapt to survive in different environments, which got us ready for the exciting part — a real-life habitat hunt!
We explored all kinds of habitats and micro-habitats, from ponds and meadows to logs, trees and forest floors. It was like going on a mini safari, we discovered all sorts of tiny creatures and even spotted a froglet! The children were brilliant nature detectives, carefully observing the wildlife and asking fantastic questions. We finished off the session with some fun games all about habitats and how animals find what they need to survive.

In the afternoon, we headed to Mayow Park for a well-deserved picnic and some fun in the sun. The children enjoyed football matches, games in the play area, and challenged themselves on the agility course (yes, there was a zip line too!). It was the perfect way to celebrate all the hard work Year 4 has put in this year.
A huge thank you to the staff at Dacres Wood, the adults who helped on the trip, and of course, the children — who were curious and enthusiastic!
