London Marathon Events partnered with the NBA to bring, for the first time, a basketball tournament to Trafalgar Square. On the day finalists from 10 secondary schools across London, as well as wheelchair basketball teams, went head-to-head in boys’, girls’ and mixed categories. St Michael’s were invited to watch and take part in the ‘Have a Go’ court and were coached by NBA coaches, learning how to play 3v3 basketball!
On arrival every child and adult recieved an NBA Jr 3v3 t-shirt; transforming them from PE kit into NBA Jr fans!

Next they took photos with the trophy …
The photo booth was a hit with all the children as they explored as many ways as possible to pose for the camera.

The giveaways didn’t end there! An ‘access to sport’ quiz resulted in packets of sweets, followed by a stand with hats, t-shirts, balls and headphones – the children were truly blessed with gifts.

Lunch was enjoyed watching the 3v3 match – the energy was unbeliveable – definitely something we would like to replicate at St Michael’s.

Lunch was followed by the 3v3 basketball clinic which was thoroughly relished by the children and staff!

And that wasn’t the end… the final surprise was meeting the mascot!

A great day was had by all. A big thank you to Jenelle Grant, Basketball Operations at NBA Europe & Middle East and an ex-student of St Michael’s for inviting us to take part in the first NBA Jr Basketball Clinic.
