WHAT IS A VECTOR DRAWING?

Y5 have been learning that vector images are made up of shapes. They have been learning how to use different drawing tools and how images are created in layers. They have explored ways in which images can be grouped and duplicated to support them in creating more complex pieces of work.

The National Curriculum states that a high-quality computing education equips pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world.

Y5 started off by creating an owl using paper shapes. This exercise was to help the children understand how images are created in layers. It was important to know which layer one had to start with and then build upon. This will be an extremely useful skill when the children start creating vector drawing on the computers. Here are the children in action.

Y5 then moved on to using the main drawing tools within a software package – Google Drawings. The class identified the main drawing tools and proceeded to create some very impressive vector drawings.
