A new look at the Bible – brought to knitted life

Members of the pupil faith committee and the prayer leaders visited St Bartholomew’s church accompanied by Deacon David and Mrs Colling to see a marvellous exhibition of ‘The Knitted Bible’. 15 years ago, a craft group at a church in Hartlepool were challenged to knit a bible scene – The Last Supper. They did it so quickly that they then decided to carry on and knit lots more scenes from the Bible. There are now some 35 scenes completed and the exhibition goes on tour to churches throughout the country.

Finding Moses in the bulrushes
Moses brings down the tablets of stone with the ten commandments from the mountain
Noah’s ark
Daniel is safe in the lion’s den
Jesus feeds the four thousand
On the road to Emmaus (after Jesus’ resurrection)

There are both Old and New Testament stories and some of the scenes were from stories that the children were not familiar with, giving a good starting point for some new learning and a chance to answer questions.

It really was a great opportunity; thank you to Revd Jim Perry, vicar at St Bartholomew’s for welcoming us.
