On Tuesday the parents had an opportunity to see the Talk 4 Writing approach in action in the Bring Your Parent to School day.
St Michael’s has adopted the Talk4Writing approach, which is powerful because it enables children to imitate the language they need for a particular topic orally, before reading and analysing it and then writing their own version.
It has 3 stages
Imitation: Children learn the story, supported visually by a text map and physical movements.
Innovation: Once children have internalised the text, they innovate on the pattern of the text. The children use a boxed-up grid to plan the text and then turn the plan into writing.
Independent application: This stage will focus on supporting the children to become independent writers of the type of text they are focusing on.
Thank you to all our parents who joined their children in class. We will have another Bring Your Parent 2 School opportunity in the Summer Term.
