National Poetry Day

Year Five children worked collaboratively on National Poetry Day to produce some fabulous poems. The theme this year was ‘The Environment‘ and poetry was a great way to explore that theme. The National Curriculum states that ‘pupils should be taught to prepare poems and plays to read aloud and perform, showing understanding through intonation, tone and volume so that the meaning is clear to an audience’. Year Five managed to achieve that. Here they are in action;

**First, the children chose a title for their poem. Then, each child wrote a line or two that could be used in their poem.**

***The children proceeded to put their poem together. It took a few re-arrangements and editing to get to the final product.***
