the meaning of commissioning

One way of welcoming the new Headteacher into the parish and local community is by celebrating the appointment with a commissioning service. On Sunday 20th March 2022, an act of commissioning for our new Headteacher took place at St Michael’s Church.

The appointment of a new Headteacher often heralds a new beginning for a school, an opportunity to move forward with fresh insight and vigour. It was a chance for us, as a church of England school, to consider our distinctive nature and the Christian ethos on which we are founded.

It was a lovely service led by Reverend Ifeanyi and Deacon David.

Thank you to all that attended, which included parents and children, governors and staff. Also in attendance was Marcus Cooper, the Assistant Director of Education from the Southwark Diocese, who presented our new Headteacher with a Bible.

Ms Gillespie wanted to add that there were some lovely refreshments provided for all by our Chair of Governors Beryl Fielder. Unfortunately, we do not have an image of those as we were too busy enjoying them!

Ms Gillespie received a bouquet from St Michael’s Church

I am sure you will join the church and the school community in wishing Ms Gillespie the best in all her endeavours for the children of St Michael’s.
