Year 5's Fantastic First Half Term!

In Science, we have been investigating forces, with a particular focus on gears and mechanisms. We put our learning into practice by designing and creating our own gears using card and lolly sticks for the teeth. The children thoroughly enjoyed this hands-on activity and showed great creativity and problem-solving skills.

In RE, we learned about fearless women of faith. We researched a range of inspiring Christian women and discovered fascinating facts about their lives and beliefs. We then developed two types of questions: a factual question and a deeper-thinking question. To bring our learning to life, some children took on the roles of these remarkable women, while the rest of the class asked their questions. This was a wonderful opportunity to develop our questioning skills and deepen our understanding.

In Geography, we explored the topic of Fair Trade and took part in a lively debate about who should pay the extra cost. Some children felt that food is already very expensive and questioned whether suppliers should contribute more. However, we all agreed on one important point: farmers deserve to be paid fairly for their hard work.
