Year 4 Explore Habitats at Dacres Wood

Year 4 had a fantastic day exploring Dacres Wood as part of our Science learning about habitats and living things.

During the morning, we worked with our wonderful leader, Jess, who led us through a variety of exciting activities. We investigated different microhabitats, discovering where minibeasts and other woodland creatures live and why these environments are so important. We also took part in fun games that helped us understand how animals have adapted to survive in their habitats.

One of the highlights of the day was pond dipping, where we discovered a fascinating variety of aquatic minibeasts and small creatures living beneath the water's surface. We loved getting up close to nature and learning more about the incredible wildlife found right on our doorstep.

After a busy morning of exploring, we headed to Mayow Park for a well-earned picnic lunch. The afternoon was a chance to celebrate all of the hard work Year 4 has put into their learning this year. We had lots of fun enjoying the playground, racing along the zip line, tackling the adventure course, playing football and taking part in team-building games with our friends.

Before heading back to school, we put our science skills to the test by exploring the park to identify different natural habitats and thinking about which animals and plants might live there.

It was a brilliant day full of learning, teamwork and outdoor adventure. We are so proud of the enthusiasm and curiosity shown by all of Year 4 throughout the trip.
