Reception Class are Musical

In Reception, the children have been having a wonderful time taking part in weekly music lessons with Ms Miller – and it’s safe to say these sessions are something they really look forward to!

Each lesson begins with a fun and engaging way to say “hello everyone,” using different pitches, tones and actions to wake up our voices and bodies.

The children have enjoyed becoming star musicians, learning the names of different instruments and exploring how they sound by playing them along to different songs.

This half term, our music sessions linked closely to our transport theme, and the children loved learning to sing “The Transport Song”, following actions, and even made up some fantastic new lyrics of their own!

The children have also been learning about important musical ideas such as pulse and pitch. Pulse is the steady beat of the music – like a heartbeat that keeps the song moving – and pitch is how high or low a sound is. The children explored these concepts through singing, movement and instrument play.

It has been a joy to see how much the children enjoy music and how naturally talented they are.

Music in Reception Class

Music helps to build confidence, listening skills and creativity, while also bringing lots of smiles and laughter. We are so proud of our Reception musicians and love seeing how music helps them learn, grow and express themselves.
