Our Changing World and Landscapes

The world around us is changing in many ways.  From coastal erosion to political changes, there are many factors at work.

In Year Six, the children learnt about the structure of the United Kingdom and how its shape and geography have changed over thousands of years.  The children explored how the landscapes have changed and had a chance to predict the future.  They looked at different types of weathering and carried out simple investigations.  They identified coastal landforms created by waves such as stacks, stumps, caves, arches, coves, beaches and cliffs.

In recent news, the devastation erosion and deposition can have on coastlines has been clearly depicted in real life which enabled the children to understand that these changes and processes are ongoing.  Some research about the changes in buildings in the local area was carried and it was fascinating to learn about the history of some of these local building.  We wondered what our school will look like in fifty years’ time.
