Mosaics - Little Tiles, Big Smiles
This term, our class has been learning all about Roman history, with a special focus on mosaics. To help bring our learning to life, we created our own mosaic art pieces—and it was such a fun and memorable experience!
We began by carefully planning our designs on paper. We thought about the patterns we wanted to create and coloured in small squares to represent our tiles. This helped us visualise what our final mosaic would look like.
Next, we transferred our designs onto wooden coasters. We glued on each individual tile, making sure to leave small gaps in between so we could add grout later. This part required a lot of patience and concentration!
Once all the tiles were in place, we took our mosaics outside for the final step—grouting. It was definitely messy, but that made it even more exciting! We filled in the gaps with grout and then wiped away the excess to reveal our finished designs.
By the end of the project, we had created beautiful mosaics to take home. This hands-on activity really helped us understand how the Romans used mosaics in their art and daily life. We are so proud of our work!
