Investigative Scientists

In Year Six, children learned about identifying the kingdoms of life, classified living things within these kingdoms and were introduced to the Linnaean System of classification.

  • Can you name the six kingdoms of life?
  • What does the acronym MRS GREN stand for?
  • Who was Carl Linnaeus?

The children started off with grouping/classifying liquorice.  The temptation to pop one into their mouth was great but they overcame it.  This task enabled the children to understand how classification of living things worked.

Year 6 Investigative Science

A lot of research was carried out.

Here are some examples of the children’s work.

Year 6 Investigative Science

The investigative scientists carried various other investigation such as - what condition encourage mould growth on bread and spore dispersal from mushrooms.  Here are the highlights from the spore dispersal investigation.  Set A mushrooms were suspended approximately 2cm above a plain white sheet of paper...

What conclusion (regarding spore dispersal) would you draw from the results?
