Art - Painting and Mixed Media

This half term in Art, Year 1 have been exploring painting and mixed media.  The children have learnt about primary and secondary colours, colour mixing techniques, and applying these skills in painting and printing.  In this lesson, the children were introduced to the primary colours (red, blue, yellow) and experimented mixing them to make the secondary colours (orange, green and purple.

The children then used the primary colours to recreate Jasper Johns 1958/59 piece titled ‘Numbers in Colour’ where he chose things like numbers or letters to paint because he would not have to choose what or how to paint but could focus on exploring other things like colour or brush marks.
