Day two – look what we get up to!

A bright start to Year 6s first full day at PGL. The children were all up bright and early, ready to go! The class have been split into two activity groups for the daytime tasks but will always be together for the final activity of the night.

This morning’s activites:

  • Climbing
  • Rifle shooting

The children have a chance to experience both activities in their groups

There is always time for a happy dance and a photo opportunity

After lunch it was time for survivor and the giant swing. The giant swing is the ultimate test of nerve and joint decision-making. Two or three children are harnessed into the swing, while other members of the group pull them up to 10 metres into the air.

In survivor, once the ‘wilderness’ scenario was set, the children had to develop effective teamwork to build their shelter and use some navigational skills to help them decide the layout of their site. Tasks had to be identified and key responsibilities shared out for getting each task completed.

This residential is a great way to develop the Year 6 bond, so their downtime is important.

Catchy tune – Petunia, Petunia, Petunia ah ah!

After dinner it will be time for Ambush. Imagine hide and seek in the woods – then add lots of running and screaming although the aim is not to get caught!

UPDATE! The British weather has ambushed the ambush activity – but with the help of Josh, all is not lost – now we have a quiz night!

The children have now settled down for the night with a time of reflection and prayer. After a full day at PGL, they will need to get some rest to be ready for tomorrow – let’s hope they do!

Goodnight all!
