The online world has become children’s real world

Following our recent talk about online safety, here are some statistics provided by the NSPCC

In the UK…

1 in 4 children have experienced something upsetting on a social networking site

1 in 3 children have been a victim of cyber bullying

Almost 1 in 4 young people have come across racist or hate messages online

Around 1 in 7 young people have taken a semi-naked picture of themselves.

60% of children will change their behaviour once they’ve had a conversation with their parent about online safety.

The NSPCC provides great resources for parents to support them with helping the children to stay safe online.  Please have a look at their online safety tips and in particular NetAware, which is a guide for parents to the most popular sites, apps and games that young people use. … It’s simple and easy to use, making it easier for parents to stay up to date with their child’s online world. It’s also available as an app.
